Archibald (born Leon T. Gross, September 14, 1912 – January 8, 1973) was a New Orleans R&B pianist and singer known for his rollicking, boogie-woogie style. He gained fame in 1950 with his hit “Stack-A-Lee”, a version of the legendary folk ballad “Stagger Lee,” recorded for Imperial Records. His piano style, rooted in blues and early R&B, influenced many later New Orleans musicians. Though his recording career was brief, Archibald remained a respected performer in the New Orleans music scene for decades.
