Pleasantly surprised to find the book Congo Colossus mentioned in Jazz Books in the 1990s: An Annotated Bibliography by Janice Greenberg. “Congo Colossus: The Life and Legacy of Franco & OK Jazz” is a comprehensive biography by Graeme Ewens, published in 1994 by Buku Press. The book delves into the life of Franco Luambo Makiadi, the renowned Zairean (now Congolese) guitarist, composer, and bandleader, tracing his journey from a young musician in Kinshasa to becoming a cultural icon across Africa. It also explores the significant lyrical content of some of the approximately 3,000 compositions by his band, OK Jazz, and includes an extensive discography.
